Mary Walker Fellows Internship

JOB SUMMARY

The Summer Camp intern would support the REACH Education Department staff by playing an active role in the exciting summer camps occurring at Hope City Church in Chattanooga. 

Summer camp is held June 3rd – June 28 with a mandatory online training meeting before camp starts on May 28th. Schedules vary depending on camp assignments but may start as early as 8:30 am and end as late as 4 pm each day. 

Responsibilities will be determined based on applicant skills. Responsibilities can include; student safety, assisting in the preparation of materials for camps, assisting in games, Painting, Basketball, Self Health, Reading, Financial Literacy, Elements of Design/Canva, Journalism, Basketball, Music/Dance, Photography journalism, behavior management and other camp activities, assisting in the set up, clean up, and running of day camps as well as other clerical duties such as filing, data entry, research and more. 

Campers vary in age but are all actively enrolled in high school.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Student Safety
  • Preparation of materials for upcoming camps
  • Assisting in the running of games, programming, etc.
  • Assisting in behavior management
  • Assisting in the set up, cleanup and running of programs onsite
  • Assisting in the check in/out of students
  • Assisting in organizational writing, editing, social media and graphic design
  • Assisting in fundraising

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Experience working with high school students
  • Demonstrated use of computer applications, including but not limited to: Microsoft® Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be enrolled in college level courses
  • High Reading Level
  • Basic computer skills, including set up and navigation
  • Interest in the fields of Education, Finance, Journalism, Nonprofit Management or Performance

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is an inside job, but may include outdoor activities, on Fridays educational field trips are included in the camp, these may include trips to colleges or museums, for example. Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, typing, bending and lifting up to approximately 20 lbs.
